Founded in 1968, Voice of Persecuted Christians (formerly Release International) is a UK-based Christian ministry committed to supporting followers of Jesus Christ who face persecution for their faith around the world. For over 50 years, they has sought to be a voice for the voiceless - standing alongside believers who suffer because of their unwavering commitment to the gospel.
The ministry was inspired by the life and witness of Pastor Richard Wurmbrand, a Romanian pastor who endured 14 years of imprisonment and torture under a communist regime for boldly proclaiming Christ. His story, told in the book
Tortured for Christ, continues to stir hearts and awaken the church to the reality of persecution today.
Their mission is anchored in Hebrews 13:3:
“Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated, as if you yourselves were suffering.”
This call shapes everything they do - encouraging empathy, solidarity, and active compassion for the persecuted body of Christ.
🌍 Global Impact
Today, the organisation works in around 30 countries, responding prayerfully, pastorally, and practically to the needs of persecuted Christians. Their ministry includes:
-
Prayer support – mobilising the global church to intercede
-
Advocacy – raising awareness and speaking out for justice
-
Practical aid – meeting urgent physical and material needs
-
Pastoral care – encouraging believers to stand firm in faith
👥Our Partnership
As a church, we are privileged to partner with Voice of Persecuted Christians in both prayer and action. Together, we remember those who suffer for Christ’s name and celebrate the courage of believers who continue to share the gospel in the hardest places.
